This site is for beginners who want to learn to program computers. We provide articles, book reviews, advice, and links to help you plot out a plan to accomplish that. Although we have a few tutorials, code examples, and how-to articles on programming our goal isn't to try to teach you HOW to program, but rather help guide you to figure out WHAT you need to learn, WHERE to get the info you need, and HOW to approach learning. Also, we try to help you use your time effectively and efficiently as you go about learning to program computers.
This is the heart of the site - there are numerous articles covering many topics. This can help you decide a path to accomplish your goals - things like which computer programming language to learn first, how to find help when you need it, how to get the most out of the internet for finding tutorials, and so on.
Our book reviews are not reprints of the hype from the publisher (well, maybe most of them are, but still) - we do actually read the books, and then honestly review them. We try to assess it as to whether it would be useful to the intended target audience, and rate it as a "must buy", "nice to have", "don't waste your time", and "I could have written that myself". Personally, my approach on books might be a little different than others: I usually find that I need to read several books on a subject before I start to feel I am understanding things - I've found that where one author does a good job on certain topics, another does better on something else, and getting several viewpoints helps me learn better. I am glad I learned how to read.
Looking at little samples of code can help you learn. If you do a google search with keywords such as "Tutorial", "Code", and "Java" (for example) you'll find a lot tips and this sort of thing. Of course you already knew that, but it helps me pad this out so it looks like there is lots of useful information here.
I've gathered up a few tips and whatnot here, and I'm gonig to try to add a couple every day.
As you know, there are thousands of sites that are dedicated to computer programming and learning to program. Finding a site that is actually useful and understandable can be difficult. My links are here to try to help guide you through to the best sites for beginners.

Put my name like this: [woody] including the square brackets into the subject along with whatever else you want, otherwise it will probably go to my spam folder and be lost forever, along with pleas from the Prince of Nigeria for my help in getting 20 million (US) out of the country.
